Assisting all Search & Rescue Units in Mississippi
MSARA is more of a facilitator and training organization than a response unit. We are here to facilitate each county's training needs, help them organize a team, and to offer a network of individuals that can help each other.
The State of Mississippi has a large number of Search and Rescue teams with a variety of skill sets and capabilities. Some are all volunteer teams with limited funding and others are a mixture of paid and volunteer members who are supported by county government. Some have close ties to Fire Departments/Emergency Management and others to the local Sheriff Department. Each team strives to be the best they can be.
In support of these teams, MSARA has posted a brief overview of each teams resources to help promote the exchange of information, training, and problem solving in order to improve the capabilities of the resources of the State of Mississippi.
Many of these teams responded to Hurricane Katrina and learned first hand the difficulties of operating in a major disaster that affected the entire state. While that was back in 2005, no one that participated during that time can deny each county's resources were stretched to the limit. Lessons were learned and adjustments made in how to respond in a timely manner with the personnel and teams to get the job done.
Individual teams are encouraged to send information to MSARA for posting on this site to better promote the important role they play in meeting the needs of their respective communities and assisting the State in being ready for any future challenges that may come.
